PrincetonPrinceton, New Jersey
Give Princeton one full day on foot: campus, Nassau Street and the battlefield. Sleep one night if you want the evening; otherwise day-trip from Trenton or New York.
Princeton is a small university town in Mercer County, New Jersey, about 70–80 minutes by train from New York and roughly an hour from Philadelphia. Almost everything a visitor wants — the campus, Nassau Street, Palmer Square, the art museum — sits within a 20-minute walk. One day covers it; a second night only makes sense if you are catching a show at McCarter Theatre or using it as a quiet base between New York and Philadelphia.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
Walk. The Dinky shuttle links Princeton station (south edge of campus) with Princeton Junction, where you transfer to NJ Transit or Amtrak. A free Loop Express bus runs from the station into town except Sundays and public holidays. Local buses are limited; taxis wait on Nassau Street at Witherspoon. Parking meters are enforced daily, including Sunday.

Safety
- Parking meters are checked often and fines run around $40; use a garage or the parking cash card.
- Mercer Street has no shoulder — see Einstein's house on foot, not by car.
- The Dinky is a short shuttle, not a mainline train; keep your ticket for the transfer at Princeton Junction.
- Campus buildings and the art museum keep limited hours outside term time: check before you go.
