Alcúdia splits in two: a walled medieval town 2 km inland and a 14 km hotel-and-beach strip running north to Can Picafort. The old town is small and walkable in half a day; the beach, the wetland reserve and the Alcanada headland fill the rest. It is a family and slow-travel resort, not a clubbing town, and much of it shuts between November and March.

Getting around

The old town is pedestrianised and small enough to walk. Bus 323 shuttles between the town, the port and Alcanada about every 50 min. TIB buses 302, 315, 322, 324 and 325 link the town, port, beach, Can Picafort, Pollença and Palma. Car or bike hire is the practical way to reach s'Albufera, the Alcanada headland and the coves; taxis here mostly run airport transfers rather than short hops.

Watch out

Safety

Alcúdia is a low-crime resort and the old town is calm at night. The real risks are summer heat and dehydration, rip currents on exposed stretches of beach, and pickpockets around the port and market in high season.
  • Many hotels and restaurants close from November to March; check before booking a winter trip.
  • Bus 302 from Palma cannot be used for short local hops along the beach strip.
  • The causeway to the Gran Irland islet floods at high tide and the islet is often littered; wear old shoes or skip it.
  • Summer heat and midday sun on the beach are the main health risk; shade and water matter more than anything else.
  • The old town is quiet at night: no free-standing pubs in the centre, nightlife is at the port.
