La Toussuire is a purpose-built ski village at 1,750 m in the Maurienne, one of six resorts in the Les Sybelles area. It is a base, not a sightseeing town: you come for 55 km of marked pistes in winter, marked hiking and a swim lake in summer, and you sleep where you clip in. Two nights is the floor; three to five lets a bad-weather day pass without wasting the trip.

Getting around
The village is small and walkable: lifts, ski school, shops and restaurants sit within about 10 minutes on foot. A free resort shuttle runs in season (check the timetable at the tourist office). A car is useful for the valley, the Col and day trips; the D78 is the only road up.

Watch out
Safety
- The D78 from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne is a mountain road: chains or winter tyres are required in snow, and the gendarmerie does check.
- Ski passes are per Les Sybelles area, not per village: buy the pass that matches the days you actually ski.
- Many restaurants and rentals close outside school holidays; check opening before you book a shoulder-season week.
- Altitude 1,750 (≈ US$2,500) m: sun and cold are both stronger than in the valley — layers and high-factor sunscreen.
- Off-piste and snowpark use is at your own risk; avalanche bulletins are issued daily in winter.
