Mbaiki

Spend a half‑day in Mbaiki to see the Mbeko falls and nearby pygmy villages, then return to Bangui; skip overnight stay.

Mbaiki is the main town in the southern Central African Republic, reachable by a partly tarmacked road from Bangui. The town offers a few basic services, a motel, and access to the rainforest waterfall of Mbeko and nearby pygmy villages. With limited accommodation and night‑time travel risks, a day visit is the most practical option.

  • Africa ↗When a route touches a yellow-fever country — even a transit of 12 hours or more — keep the original yellow card (ICVP) in your hand luggage; health desks and airlines can refuse boarding or entry without it.
  • Africa ↗Nine African countries on this site have no trip line because governments advise against travel; several others have no-go regions. Read your government's advice for every country on the route before paying deposits.
  • Central Africa ↗Sort the visa before the flight: none of the seven countries reliably issues tourist visas on arrival to Western passports, and e-visas here are tied to named airports.
  • Central Africa ↗Carry the original yellow fever vaccination certificate in your hand luggage; health desks at every Central African airport ask for it, and a missing card can mean refusal or a jab at the desk.
  • Central Africa ↗Before booking anything in or near the DRC, read the WHO Ebola situation page and your own government's health notice: the 2026 outbreak brought quarantine and boarding rules for people who have been in the DRC.
  • Central African Republic ↗Check your own government travel advice for Central African Republic before any booking; advice depends on your passport and changes without notice.
  • Central African Republic ↗Entry requires a visa issued by the Central African Republic authorities; no independent tourist route is documented here.
  • Central African Republic ↗Confirm that your travel insurance and medical evacuation cover apply to Central African Republic before you rely on it.

Safety

High-risk destination: road conditions, minimal medical and police services and the lack of a published trip line mean a daylight out-and-back from Bangui, no night driving, and a check of your own government travel advice first.
  • Road has many potholes; do not drive it after dark.
  • A small road fee applies on the Bangui–Mbaiki road: keep cash handy.
  • Medical, police and fuel services are minimal; read your own government travel advice before booking anything.
  • No public transport: you need a 4WD and a driver.
