Borlänge is an industrial town of about 51,000 in southern Dalarna, 20 minutes by road from Falun and on the hourly Gävle–Falun regional rail line. Its centre is modern and was voted Sweden's ugliest in a 2018 poll, so most travellers use it for the railway station, the Kupolen mall and the Romme Alpin ski hill rather than for the town. Treat it as a practical stop inside a Dalarna loop, not a destination in its own right.

Getting around

The centre is walkable in 20–25 minutes end to end. Dalatrafik buses cover the town and villages; a ride inside the town boundary costs about 30 kr for adults. Taxis are metered — TaxiKurir and Borlänge Taxi both operate. A car makes Romme Alpin, Ornässtugan and the Siljan lake villages far easier.

Borlänge is a normal Swedish town and safe for visitors by day and evening; the real risks are icy pavements in winter, quiet streets after closing time, and drink prices in bars with no posted list — ask before you order.
