Saint-Basile-le-Grand is a residential and commercial town of about 16,700 people on the Mont-Saint-Hilaire commuter line, 25 km east of Montréal. Its draw is small: a stretch of old houses on rue Principale, a riverside launch ramp and 20 km of bike paths. Most travellers pass through on the way to Mont-Saint-Bruno or the Richelieu valley towns, and one night is enough if you stop at all.
