Issaquah is a small King County city at the foot of the Issaquah Alps, 30–40 min east of Seattle on I-90. Its draw is trail access — Cougar, Squak and Tiger mountains — plus a walkable Olde Town on Front Street and a salmon hatchery. There is no rail link, so a car or a bus from the Issaquah Transit Center decides your trip.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: I-90 exits 15 and 17 serve the city, and trailheads sit off Issaquah-Hobart Road and Lakemont Blvd. Olde Town is walkable. King County Metro and Sound Transit buses run from the Issaquah Transit Center to Seattle (routes 214, 554), Bellevue (214, 271, 556), Redmond (269, 554) and North Bend (208); a 2-hour Metro fare is $3, $1 for seniors 65+ and free for youth 0–18.

Safety

Issaquah is a low-crime suburban city; the real risks are trail conditions, fast traffic on Front Street and I-90, and winter mud and ice on the foothill routes.
  • Vehicle access to Squak Mountain, Tiger Mountain and Lake Sammamish State Park needs a Discover Pass — $10 a day or $30 a year.
  • Trailhead lots fill by mid-morning on weekends; go early.
  • Front Street/Issaquah Pine Lake carries heavy traffic — cross with care.
  • Winter trails are muddy and can ice over; check conditions before a summit push.
