Delta is a village of a few hundred people in Rideau Lakes township, eastern Ontario, about 70 km from Kingston and 130 km from Ottawa. It is a half-day stop built around the Old Stone Mill National Historic Site, a restored 1810 water-powered mill, plus two lakes and a campground. There is no public transport, so you need a car. Most travellers see it as a detour on the Kingston–Brockville corridor, not a base.

Getting around

No public transport in the Delta area. You need a car; rentals are in Kingston and Ottawa. The Cataraqui Trail crosses the region for cycling, but parts run along the highway shoulder. Village sights are walkable once parked.

Watch out

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are rural driving, deer at dusk, winter ice and long gaps between fuel and cell service. Tell someone your route if you ride the Cataraqui Trail.
  • The mill is open only from the Victoria Day weekend in May to Labour Day in September, plus special event days: check before driving out.
  • Fuel, food and opening hours are limited in the village; fill up and eat in Kingston, Brockville or Westport.
  • Cell coverage is patchy on the backroads; download offline maps.
  • Deer and farm equipment on Highway 42 and the side roads, especially at dusk.
