MarysvilleMarysville, Ohio

Go for one night if you are already in Greater Columbus: Uptown is a 1-hour walk-around, the Honda Heritage Center is the one real sight, and US 33 puts Dublin 20 min away.

Marysville is a Union County seat of about 22,000 people, founded in 1819 and sitting on US 33 and US 36 northwest of Columbus. It is a working small city, not a sightseeing town: the draw is the Honda Heritage Center, a compact historic Uptown with the 1880s courthouse, and easy access to Dublin, Delaware and the Columbus zoo-and-shopping belt. Most travellers pass through in half a day or use it as a cheap bed outside Columbus.

  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
  • United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
  • United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
  • United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around

A car is the practical answer: US 33 and US 36 meet here and there is no useful local bus for visitors. Uptown is walkable in 10–15 min end to end, with free street parking and a public lot. Rideshare exists but waits can run 15–25 min outside the centre.

Watch out

Safety

Low-risk small city; the real issues are driving US 33 in winter weather, unlit rural roads after dark and leaving valuables visible in parked cars at trailheads.
  • Almost everything closes by 21:00–22:00; late food means driving to Dublin.
  • Weekend hotel rates spike during the Union County Fair and the July bike fest: book ahead or shift dates.
  • Winter ice on US 33 and SR 31 is the main driving risk; keep daylight hours for highway legs.
  • Prices are quoted before Ohio sales tax, added at the register.
