BellevilleBelleville, Ontario
Give Belleville one night as a Bay of Quinte stop between Toronto and Kingston, or skip it and sleep in Prince Edward County instead.
Belleville is a small city of about 55,000 on the Bay of Quinte, on Highway 401 roughly two hours east of Toronto and fifty minutes west of Kingston. It works as a rail and road stop, a base for Prince Edward County wineries and Sandbanks, and a one-evening town for a heritage house, a farmers' market and a hockey game. Its own sights fill a day at most.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Getting around
A car is the most flexible way to move: Belleville is small and the good day trips (Prince Edward County, wineries, Sandbanks) are rural. Local city buses are limited and commuter services do not run on weekends. Two paved trails suit cycling: the 4.4 km Riverfront Trail from Victoria Park along the Moira River to Lions Park, and the Waterfront Trail through Zwick's Park to East Bayshore Park.
