Sant Feliu de Guíxols is a working port and former cork town on the Costa Brava, 40 km from Girona airport and 125 km from Barcelona. It has no train station, so you arrive by bus or car. Two nights covers the monastery, the seafront promenade, the Camí de Ronda cliff path and a beach day; three nights adds a day trip to Girona or Tossa de Mar. It is a base, not a checklist: the town is small, walkable and busiest in July and August.

Getting around

The centre is flat and walkable: bus terminal to the beach is about 10 minutes on foot. Buses (SARFA/Moventis, Teisa) link Barcelona, Girona, Figueres and the coast; Lloret and Tossa services run only in July and August. A car helps for coves and day trips; parking fills early in summer.

Watch out

Safety

A low-risk resort town; the real issues are pickpocketing in the summer crowd, strong currents on exposed coves, and heat on the cliff path — swim where a lifeguard is on duty and start walks early.
  • No train station: the nearest is Caldes de Malavella (about 30 km) or Girona (about 45 km), then a bus.
  • Lloret–Tossa buses run only in July and August — check before planning that leg.
  • Some Camí de Ronda sections are steep, rocky and exposed; wear shoes with grip and carry water.
  • Cala Joana is reachable by boat only; Cala Urgell needs a narrow, difficult descent.
  • Many seafront restaurants close or cut hours from November to March.
