Maitland is a small, wealthy Orange County suburb north of Orlando, about 20,000 people, with a compact walkable core of lakes, parks and two good museums. It is not a theme-park base and has no nightlife district. Come for a half day from Orlando or Winter Park, or sleep here if you want a calm, cheaper bed with a SunRail train into the city.

Getting around
A car is the practical default: sights and hotels are spread along US-17/92 and Maitland Blvd, and sidewalks are patchy outside the core. The walkable centre (Lake Lily, the museums, a few restaurants) is a few blocks. SunRail commuter trains stop at Maitland station and run south to Winter Park and Orlando and north to Altamonte Springs and Sanford on weekdays; Lynx bus 102 also links to Orlando. Both take just over 30 min to downtown Orlando. SunRail does not run on Sundays and has limited Saturday service — check the timetable.
