Surin is a small beach village on Phuket's west coast, about 15 km north of Patong and roughly 20 minutes from the airport. It is a low-rise strip of seafood restaurants, a park on an old golf course and a handful of high-end resorts on the headland at Pansea. There is almost nothing to sightsee: you come here to swim, eat and sleep, and two or three nights covers it. Beds start high and climb fast, and the sea is genuinely dangerous in the monsoon months.

Getting around

The village and beach are walkable in 10–15 min. Blue-and-white songthaews run along the main road to Phuket Town and Kamala, but there is no direct service to Patong. Tuk-tuks at the beach intersection ask a flat ฿350. Motorbike rental from stalls near the beach starts around ฿200/day; an IDP plus your home licence is required.

Watch out

Safety

The main risk is the sea, not crime: the beach shelves steeply and drownings happen in the monsoon, so stay inside the marked float lines and follow red flags. Elsewhere it is a calm, low-crime resort strip; the usual Phuket annoyances are fixed taxi fares and inflated beach prices.
  • The beach slopes steeply and the monsoon season brings strong currents and drownings; swim only between the marked float lines and obey red flags.
  • Tuk-tuk and taxi prices at the beach are fixed by local operators, not metered: agree the fare before you get in.
  • Rooms are expensive for Phuket; the cheapest beds sit inland, not on the sand.
  • Hawkers work the sand; a firm no is enough.
