Woodbridge is a small Suffolk market town on the River Deben, 9 miles from Ipswich, and the practical base for Sutton Hoo, the Anglo-Saxon burial site run by the National Trust. The town itself is walkable in an afternoon: quay, tide mill, market hill, a few good pubs. Most visitors come for Sutton Hoo and stay one night; the railway makes Ipswich and Lowestoft easy without a car.

Getting around

The centre is small enough to walk: station to quay is about 10 minutes. Buses run to Ipswich, Melton and Framlingham; the East Suffolk Line train (Greater Anglia) links Ipswich and Lowestoft. National Cycle Route 1 passes through town. For Sutton Hoo and the coast villages a car or taxi is easier than buses.
