Know before you go
- Puerto Madero was the city's original modern port, opened in 1897 and made obsolete within a couple of decades by ships too large for its docks; the brick warehouses sat mostly empty until a 1990s redevelopment turned them into offices, apartments and restaurants.
- The Puente de la Mujer (Women's Bridge), a white rotating footbridge by Santiago Calatrava, opened in 2001 and is the area's best-known landmark.
- It reads as a different city from the historic centre a few blocks away: glass towers, wide docks and a noticeably higher price level in its restaurants.
