Saint-Paulin is a village of about 1,500 people on the Loup River in the Maskinongé region of Québec, roughly 1 h 30 min from Montréal by car. The draw is the river gorge and its falls, the Le Baluchon eco-resort and the sugar shacks, not the village grid. Most travellers pass through on the way to Saint-Alexis-des-Monts or the Mastigouche reserve; one night is enough, and a car is close to essential.

Getting around
A car is the realistic way to move: the falls, the resort and the lake are 5–10 km apart with no village bus. The village grid itself is walkable in about 20 minutes end to end. VIA Rail stops at Saint-Paulin station on Route 350, 1.8 km south of the centre, but the wilderness routes run about one day per week, so treat the train as a novelty, not a plan. Les navettes Express runs weekday commuter shuttles toward Louiseville and Trois-Rivières.
