Angeles is a Pampanga city built around the former Clark US air base, now split between the heritage streets of Santo Rosario and the casino-and-bar strip of Balibago on Fields Avenue. Most travellers come for one thing: the 4x4 and lahar trek to Mt. Pinatubo. Add the old houses, the Kapampangan food and a night or two and the city is done.

Getting around

Jeepneys run 24 h on the main routes and are the cheapest option. Grab works and is usually cheaper than a street-hailed trike. Trikes are for short hops only and are not allowed near the airport. Clark Loop buses inside the freeport are free.

Watch out

Safety

Angeles is fine for tourists by day; the real risks are overpriced trikes and taxis, the Fields Avenue bar scene at night, and heat on the Pinatubo walk. Keep to lit streets after midnight and use Grab.
  • Street-hailed trikes quote foreigners a flat ₱100 (≈ US$2) even for 1–1.5 km; the 2019 fare chart starts at ₱25 (≈ under US$1). Use Grab or agree the price first.
  • Airport taxis ask about ₱500 (≈ US$9) to Fields Avenue; a Grab is normally ₱200–300 (≈ US$4–6).
  • Tourist entry needs an onward or return ticket — airlines check at check-in.
  • Pinatubo treks run in the dry season; heavy rain cancels them with little notice.
  • Fields Avenue is a nightlife strip; expect touts and inflated bar bills.
