Saint-Siméon-de-BonaventureSaint-Siméon

Skip as a base unless you want a quiet Acadian river mouth: one night on Route 132, or a 2–3 h stop for the point and the marsh walk.

Saint-Siméon-de-Bonaventure is a small Acadian parish on the north shore of Chaleur Bay, strung along Route 132 in three parts (Ouest, centre, Est) with a forested backcountry behind. There is no town core to wander: the draw is the river mouth, a 450 m jetty on the point, and the water views. Treat it as a half-day pause or one night between Bonaventure and Caplan, not a destination in itself.

  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
  • Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
  • Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Watch out

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are long driving distances on Route 132, moose and deer at dusk, cold water, and winter closures of rentals and services.
  • Most chalets and some lodgings close from October to May — book and confirm before a winter run.
  • Cell coverage thins in the forested backcountry north of Route 132.
  • The point and marsh paths are unlit and soft underfoot; go in daylight.
  • Distances between services on Route 132 are long: fill up when you can.
