Llantrisant is a small hilltop town in Glamorgan, about 12 miles northwest of Cardiff, known for the Royal Mint and for a compact historic core: the Bull Ring square, a single surviving castle wall, a church with a 13th-century effigy and the Billy Wynt tower on Y Graig. It is a half-day stop, not a base, unless the Mint tour is the reason for coming. Most travellers sleep in Cardiff or Pontyclun and reach it by bus, train plus taxi, or car.
