Brigham City is a small northern Utah town of about 19,000 people, known for peaches and for the Peach Days festival on the second weekend of September. Its real draw for travellers is Golden Spike National Historical Park, 32 miles northwest, where the first US transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869. Most visits are one night between Salt Lake City and Logan, or a half-day stop on I-15.

Getting around

You need a car. Downtown is walkable in 10–15 minutes, but Golden Spike, the bird refuge and the golf course are all outside town with no useful bus. UTA runs limited bus service; a FrontRunner commuter rail extension to Brigham City has been discussed but is not open.

Safety

A quiet, low-crime small town; the real risks are the drive to Golden Spike (deer at dusk, winter ice) and summer heat with no shade at the park.
  • Golden Spike National Historical Park is 32 miles (about 50 min) northwest on Utah 83: no fuel or food at the site, fill up in town.
  • The park's two replica locomotives run on a seasonal schedule, not year-round: check dates before you drive out.
  • Summer afternoons hit 33 °C+ with little shade at Golden Spike; go at opening.
  • Winter snow closes or slows the Promontory roads; check Utah road conditions before setting out.
  • Alcohol rules are stricter than in most US states: many restaurants do not serve liquor, and Mim's Bar and Grill is in Corinne, a short drive west.
