Kajang is a Selangor town 20 km south of Kuala Lumpur, known across Malaysia as Satay Town. The old quarter around Stadium Kajang MRT is compact and walkable in an hour; the rest is housing estates and highways. Most travellers come for dinner and go back the same night. One night makes sense only if you are heading south to Seremban or Port Dickson the next morning.

Getting around

The MRT Sungai Buloh–Kajang line ends at Stadium Kajang, next to the old town and the sate restaurants; Kajang KTM station is 1.5 km south. RapidKL buses cover the suburbs but slow down at peak. Taxis and ride-hailing are cheap for short hops; walking works in the old quarter only.

Watch out

Safety

Kajang is a normal, busy Selangor town and feels safe by day and evening. The real risks are traffic on Federal Route 1, the midday heat, and pickpocketing in crowded night markets: keep bags zipped and cross at lights.
  • Midday heat and afternoon storms: plan indoor stops 12:00–15:00.
  • Kajang KTM station is 1.5 km from the old town: allow 20 min on foot or take a short ride.
  • Night markets run on set evenings only: check locally before you go.
  • Some sate and seafood places close one day a week or open only in the evening: check before travelling.
  • Last MRT and KTM departures from Kajang are early evening: check the timetable before you plan a late dinner.
