Wasaga Beach is a summer town on Nottawasaga Bay with an 18 km freshwater beach split into numbered sections. Beach 1 is the busy end with bars and fast food; Beaches 3–6 are quieter and better for families. Almost everything is seasonal, so the trip lives or dies on the weather and the month.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: the beach runs 18 km east to west and the town spreads along Mosley St. Wasaga Beach Transit runs two loop routes from Wasaga Stars Arena to the Real Canadian Superstore, hourly Mon–Sat 07:00–21:00 and Sun 07:00–19:00; adult fare $2, senior/student/youth $1.50, children free (check). Taxis cover short hops. Cycling works on the beachfront trail and Shore Lane Rd.

Walk to the busiest sand, bars and fast food. Loudest at night in summer; book weeks ahead for Jul–Aug weekends.

Beach 2–4

Shade trees, bike trail and playgrounds; a short drive or a longer walk from Beach 1.

Beach 5–6 and Shore Lane

Quietest stretch, mostly seasonal cottages; you need a car for groceries and restaurants.

River Road West

Inland, cheaper, near the Nottawasaga River; about 5–10 min drive to the sand.

Watch out

Safety

A low-crime summer resort town. The real risks are cold water and unsupervised swimming, sunburn, summer-weekend drink crowds at Beach 1, and seasonal businesses that close without notice.
  • Swimming is unpatrolled outside the supervised Beach 1 and Beach 2 zones in summer; check flags and current warnings before you go in.
  • Water is shallow and warms slowly: late Jun can still be cold, Aug is warmest.
  • Summer weekends fill parking lots by mid-morning; arrive before 10:00 or park and walk.
  • Most restaurants, motels and shops are seasonal and shut from Oct to May.
  • Beach 1 nightlife means noise and drink-fuelled crowds on summer weekends; keep an eye on your group.
  • The Nottawasaga River current is stronger than it looks near the mouth.
