Tarbert is a small harbour village on the isthmus between Loch Fyne and West Loch, on the A83 in Argyll and Bute. It is a working ferry and fishing port with a ruined castle, a seafood festival and quick links to Islay, Arran, Gigha and Cowal. Most travellers pass through in a few hours; one night covers the village, two nights add the peninsula.

Getting around
The village is walkable in 10 minutes end to end; the east pier for the Portavadie ferry is about half a mile from the centre. You need a car, taxi or bus for the other ferry piers: Kennacraig is 6 miles south, Claonaig 10 miles and Tayinloan 15 miles. West Coast Bus 448 links Lochgilphead, Tarbert, Kennacraig, Claonaig and Skipness three times Monday–Saturday; buses 447 and 449 run twice on school days only.

Safety
- Do not confuse Tarbert in Argyll with Tarbet on Loch Lomond: the Glasgow bus calls at both.
- Kennacraig ferries to Islay need booking ahead; caravans and motorhomes cannot use the unbooked stand-by queue.
- In summer, caravan and motorhome drivers may be asked at check-in for a pitch reservation at their destination.
- Mobile signal is weak or absent in parts of Knapdale; download maps and tickets before you leave the village.
- 5G has not reached the area; 4G on the A83 is generally usable.
