Pforzheim sits at the northern edge of the Black Forest, where the Enz, Nagold and Würm meet, about 30 minutes by train from Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. An air raid on 23 February 1945 destroyed roughly 80% of the centre, so the city is post-war and functional rather than half-timbered. Its identity is precious metal: a large share of German jewellery is still made here, and the Schmuckmuseum is the reason most visitors stop. It is also the traditional start of the Westweg, Mittelweg and Ostweg long-distance trails.

Getting around

The centre is walkable: Hauptbahnhof to Marktplatz is about 15 minutes on foot. Buses and the S5/S6 tram-train run under the Pforzheim-Enzkreis network (VPE), which is part of the larger Karlsruhe KVV fare area, so KVV tickets work. Lime e-scooters are available via app. Taxis wait at the station.
