Lymm is a small Cheshire village between Warrington and Altrincham, with a dam, a canal and a cluster of pubs around a medieval cross. It has no railway station, so you arrive by bus, car or canal. Most travellers see it in three or four hours, or use it as a calm base for Manchester and Liverpool.

Getting around

Walk. The centre is compact and the Dingle path links the village to Lymm Dam off-road. Buses 37, 37A and 38 run Warrington–Lymm–Altrincham. The nearest stations are Birchwood, Warrington, Knutsford and Altrincham; Lymm has no station of its own.

Lymm is a low-crime village and safe on foot by day. After dark, stick to lit streets, and take care on the A56 and canal towpath where there is no pavement or lighting.
  • No railway station: plan the last bus back or book a taxi.
  • Lymm Dam paths are muddy after rain; wear shoes with grip.
