Bundang is a planned middle-class ward of Seongnam, south of Seoul, built around the Bundang Line and the newer Shinbundang Line. It is not a sightseeing city: it is parks, department stores, café streets and Pangyo's tech offices. Travellers use it for a cheap, quiet bed near Seoul, for Seongnam FC at Tancheon, or as a stop before Everland.

Getting around

The Bundang Line links Ori, Yatap, Seohyeon, Sunae and Jeongja; the Shinbundang Line runs from Jeongja to Gangnam faster but costs more. Local buses fill the gaps and are the best way to Seoul in rush hour. Taxis are thinner than in Seoul and hard to flag at peak times; some refuse short local runs, and a taxi to Seoul may quote ₩30,000–40,000 instead of the meter.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe by any standard: violent crime is rare and streets are lit. The real annoyances are taxi refusals at rush hour, monsoon flooding on the Tancheon paths, and bar tabs with no posted prices.
  • Taxis at rush hour: ask the destination and price before you get in.
  • Some taxis only take Seoul-bound trips and will not run the meter.
  • July and August carry most of the year's rain: pack for downpours.
  • Department stores and some marts close one day a week: check before you go.
