Bellevue is the oldest town in Nebraska, sitting on the Missouri River just south of Omaha. Its draw is small and specific: 1,400 acres of river-bottom forest at Fontenelle Forest, a handful of 1830s–1850s buildings in Olde Towne, and Offutt AFB history. Most travellers see it as an Omaha half-day, not a destination. Two nights is the maximum useful stay, and one is usually enough.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: sights are spread over about 8 km and buses are thin. US-75 (Kennedy Freeway) and Fort Crook Road run north–south; Highway 370 and Cornhusker Road run east–west. Olde Towne itself is walkable in 15–20 minutes. Rideshare works but waits can be long outside the centre.

Bellevue is a low-crime suburb and feels calm day and night. The real risks are driving (I-80 and US-75 traffic), summer heat and mosquitoes on the river trails, and winter ice on the forest boardwalks.
