Kemer is a resort strip on the Lycia coast, about 40 km southwest of Antalya and roughly an hour from Antalya airport. It is not one town: Beldibi, Göynük, Kemer centre, Kiriş, Çamyuva and Tekirova run north to south along the D400, and most visitors stay inside a hotel complex rather than in a centre. Come for the sea, Phaselis, Göynük canyon and the Tahtalı cable car; three nights covers it, five if you want boat days and the Lycian Way.

Getting around

Dolmuş and city buses start from Kemer marina: Bus 1 to Kiriş beach, Bus 4 to Kuzdere, Bus 5 to Arslanbucak. Bus TA07 runs from Antalya bus station to Beldibi, Göynük and Kemer; TA08 continues to Çamyuva, Phaselis and Tekirova. Long-distance buses to Kumluca and Kaş do not enter Kemer: flag them on the D400 by the otogar. Yellow taxis are everywhere; agree the fare or check the meter.

Watch out

Safety

Kemer is a low-crime resort area; the real risks are summer heat, sea urchins on shingle beaches, unlicensed taxis and bar bills with no posted prices. Use 112 for everything.
  • Hotel and restaurant staff often speak Russian before English; menus may be Russian-first.
  • The Kemer strip is a line of resorts, not a walkable town: check the distance from your hotel to the centre before booking.
  • Beach clubs and nightclubs cluster at the north end of Kemer beach and are loud until about 04:00 in season.
  • The folklore museum at the harbour and the dolphin park are poor value; skip both.
  • Sea urchins and shingle, not sand, on most Kemer beaches: bring water shoes.
