Villa Unión sits at 1,150 m in the Bermejo Valley, between the red Sierra de Famatina and Sierra de Maíz, and is the practical base for Talampaya National Park and the high-altitude Laguna Brava. The town is small and walkable; the reason to come is the surrounding canyons. Two nights covers Talampaya plus one more site; three nights if you add Laguna Brava or Ischigualasto.

The centre is walkable in about 20 minutes end to end. For Banda Florida, Anchumbil, Talampaya or Laguna Brava, take a taxi from the north side of the Plaza or join a tour; taxi drivers also run longer trips and can be cheaper than a tour for two or more people. Agree the fare before you set off.
