Skip Dyer as a destination. Use it as a quiet base for Chicago or the Indiana lakes if you have a car: one night is enough.
Dyer is a small town in Lake County, Indiana, 40 km south of Chicago. Its only notable sight is Meyer's Castle, a Jacobethan Revival mansion with a restaurant. The Amtrak Cardinal stops here three times a week, but most travellers drive. Dyer works as a low-cost alternative to Chicago hotels for a single night.
