Mont-Tremblant is two places: the old village (now called Vieux-Tremblant, near St-Jovite) and the pedestrian resort village 13 km away at the foot of the mountain, built from 1992 and closed to cars. Most visitors never leave the resort. Skiing runs roughly November to April; summer fills the same streets with gondola rides, luge and lake swimming. It is a resort, not a city: budget accordingly, and book beds early because the same room can triple on a winter holiday weekend.

Getting around

The resort village is car-free and walkable; a free gondola links the lower village to the lifts. Everything else needs a car or the regional bus: Transport collectif intermunicipal Laurentides runs between St-Jovite, the resort and Saint-Jérôme, with connections onward to Montréal. Parking is free on the north side.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe for a resort town; the real risks are winter driving on Route 117, cold exposure on the mountain, and alcohol at après-ski. 911 for everything.
  • Winter tires are required by law in Québec for Québec-registered vehicles from 1 December to 15 March; advisable for all cars.
  • Resort prices are high — the village supermarket and convenience stores cost more than St-Jovite.
  • Room rates swing hard: under $100 (≈ US$75) on a wet fall weekday, over $400 (≈ US$300) on a winter holiday weekend.
  • The pedestrian village is a built resort, not a historic town; if you want old Québec, base elsewhere.
  • Some summer and winter activities are seasonal and weather-dependent: confirm before you book.
