Starkville is a college town built around Mississippi State University, in east Mississippi about 2 h 15 min by car from Jackson and 1 h 30 min from Tuscaloosa. Its draw is campus life, SEC sport and a compact downtown-Cotton District strip of bars and kitchens. Most travellers come for a football weekend or break a Highway 82 drive here for one night.
