Stay 2–3 nights if you want a quiet beach base with a car; skip it if you have no car or want nightlife — that is Daytona Beach, 10 min north.
Daytona Beach Shores is a 5.5-mile strip of condos, small motels and beach parks on the barrier island south of Daytona Beach, incorporated in 1967. It has no airport, no train station and almost no nightlife; you come for the beach, the pier and easy access to Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach. A car is close to essential.
