Tanjung Bira
Go for 2 nights if you want quiet white-sand beaches and good snorkelling; skip if you need nightlife or luxury resorts.
Tanjung Bira is a laid-back beach community at the southeastern tip of Sulawesi, known for its white sand, clear water and traditional pinisi shipbuilding. It's quiet midweek and fills with Indonesian tourists on weekends. Most visitors stay 2 nights to snorkel, visit the nearby island and eat fresh seafood.
