Espanola
Use Espanola as a one-night stop on the Highway 17 run between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie, or as a base for Spanish River paddling and Manitoulin Island.
Espanola is a small paper-mill town on the Trans-Canada Highway, 72 km west of Sudbury, and the last real service stop before the Highway 6 turnoff to Manitoulin Island. It has motels, a strip mall, a handful of restaurants and quick access to lakes, the Spanish River and groomed snowmobile trails. Most travellers pass through in an afternoon; paddlers, anglers and snowmobilers stay two or three nights.

A car is the practical way to reach trailheads, launches and lodges. The town core along Centre Street is walkable, and there is a fitness trail to the lakeshore. Ontario Northland buses stop in Espanola on the Sault Ste. Marie–Sudbury route.
