TeslicТеслић

Go only for the Banja Vrućica spa or as a cheap one-night stop between Doboj and Banja Luka; the town itself is a 2-hour walk.

Teslic is a small town on the Usora river in Republika Srpska, known almost entirely for Banja Vrućica, a thermo-mineral spa 2.5 km from the main square with the largest bed capacity in the country. There is little conventional sightseeing: a gallery, a few medieval tombstones and two caves nearby. Come for a spa stay or a single night on the Doboj–Banja Luka road, not as a standalone destination.

  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Balkans ↗Mine-suspected land still exists in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in pockets of Croatia's former front line: outside towns keep to tarmac and waymarked paths, and treat red triangle signs and taped-off fields as absolute.
  • Balkans ↗Serbia refuses onward entry to travellers who reached Kosovo from a third country and then try to cross straight into Serbia; route Kosovo–Serbia legs through North Macedonia or Montenegro, or start the loop in Serbia.
  • Balkans ↗Hire cars need written permission from the rental company and valid insurance for every country on the line; Kosovo sells its own border insurance and some contracts exclude Albania, Kosovo or Bosnia outright.
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina ↗Bosnia and Herzegovina is outside the EU and Schengen area and sets its own entry rules; check the official requirements for your passport.
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina ↗Do not leave paved roads or marked trails in rural areas, and never enter damaged or abandoned buildings: landmine risk remains in places.
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina ↗Coastal Croatia and Montenegro connect by bus; allow extra time for border queues in summer.

Getting around

The centre is walkable in about 20 minutes end to end. Banja Vrućica is 2.5 km from the main square: walk it in 30–35 min or take a taxi. Local buses run to Doboj and Banja Luka; a car is the practical way to reach Liplje Monastery, Borje and the Rastusa caves.

Watch out

Safety

The town is calm and low-crime. The real risk is rural land: mines remain outside built-up areas, so stay on paved roads, avoid abandoned property and never touch a device.
  • Land mines remain in rural areas from the 1992–1995 war: stay on paved roads and never enter abandoned property or touch any device.
  • Do not walk between towns or hitch; use buses or a taxi.
  • Spa hotels fill up in summer and around holidays: book ahead.
  • Some spa and cave websites are outdated or offline: confirm opening times by phone before you travel.
