Dipolog
Give Dipolog 2 nights as a calm base for Dapitan and Linabo Peak; skip it if you want beaches or nightlife.
Dipolog is the capital of Zamboanga del Norte and the practical gateway to western Mindanao, with flights from Manila and Cebu and ferries from Cebu and Dumaguete. The city itself is small and walkable around a handful of landmarks, so most travellers use it as a 2-night base for Dapitan, the sardine factories and Linabo Peak rather than a destination in its own right. Costs are low, transport is by tricycle, and the dry season runs roughly December to May.

Getting around
No taxis and no general downtown jeepney routes: in-town travel is by tricycle or habal-habal (passenger motorcycle). Fares are short and cheap; agree the price before you get in. Landmarks (Dipolog Boulevard, Lee Plaza, Plaza Magsaysay, Dipolog Cathedral) are the way to give directions — street names are rarely used. Buses and vans leave from the Dipolog City Land Transport Terminal on Governor Alberto Ubay Rd, Miputak, south of downtown.
