VileykaВілейка

Half a day covers Vileyka: two historic churches, both within a 10-minute walk of the centre. Sleep in Minsk or Molodechno, not here.

Vileyka is a small town on the Viliya River in Minsk Region, on the Molodechno–Polotsk rail line. Two churches from the 19th and early 20th centuries are the reason to step off the train. Sights and beds are few, so plan a half-day stop between Minsk and Polotsk rather than a base.

  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Reach this subregion only from the EU side — Romania for Moldova — through crossings run by recognised authorities; no route through Ukraine, Belarus or Russia is planned here.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Re-read your government's advice for Moldova (it covers Transnistria) in the week you travel; the situation next door changes fast.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Carry euros in cash for Transnistria and village Moldova; cards stop working at the Dniester.
  • Belarus ↗Check your own government travel advice for Belarus before any booking; advice depends on your passport and changes without notice.
  • Belarus ↗Land crossings from Poland, Lithuania and Latvia open and close on short notice; confirm the crossing on the day with that country's border guard.
  • Belarus ↗Confirm that your travel insurance and medical evacuation cover apply to Belarus before you rely on it.

Safety

Vileyka is a quiet small town; the practical risks are winter ice on pavements, unlit side streets after dark and little English outside the centre. Carry your passport and read your government's Belarus advice before you travel.
  • Weekend train frequencies are thin: confirm times before you commit to a return.
  • Church opening hours are not published online; ask locally or view from outside.
  • Carry your passport: checks are routine in Belarus.
