Zwijndrechtse Waard
Skip as a base: one ferry-and-sculpture half-day from Dordrecht, or a single night at the ARA Hotel if you need a bed near the A16.
The Zwijndrechtse Waard is a former Meuse-delta island, now the two commuter municipalities of Zwijndrecht and Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, about 72,000 people in all. There is one hotel, one Sprinter station and no Intercity stop. Its real value is the river: foot ferries to Dordrecht, a sculpture park, and the Devel nature area on the rural west side.

Getting around
One Sprinter station, Zwijndrecht, on the The Hague–Dordrecht line; Intercities pass through without stopping. Local buses (12, 88, 92, 717) cover the island, and foot ferries cross to Dordrecht from Zwijndrecht Veerplein and Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht Noordeinde. A bike is the best way to reach the Devel area.

- Intercity trains do not stop at Zwijndrecht: check that your service is a Sprinter.
- Station gates need an OV-chipkaart, e-ticket or disposable chipkaart; buy the disposable one at the station before the gates.

- The A15/A16 junction and Kijfhoek yard carry heavy freight traffic; expect noise near the rail lines.
