Nora is a small Bergslagen town with one of Sweden's best-preserved wooden centres, built on 17th–20th century iron mining. Sights sit within a 10-minute walk of the square, plus a museum railway and the Pershyttan mining village 3 km south. Most travellers see it as a day trip from Örebro, 25 km away; one night lets you add the railway and Pershyttan without rushing.

Getting around

The centre is walkable end to end in about 15 minutes. Pershyttan is 3 km south: walk it, take the summer museum train, or drive. Buses from Örebro run regularly; the nearest staffed rail station with passenger trains is Lindesberg, about 14 km northeast, linked to Nora by bus.

Watch out

Safety

Nora is a low-crime small town; the real risks are icy pavements in winter, dark unlit roads if you walk to Pershyttan, and summer ticks in long grass.
  • Guided tours at Göthlinska gården, Pershyttan and Siggebohyttan run only in summer and on set days: check times before you travel.
  • The museum railway operates June–August and at the December Christmas market; outside those dates there are no trains.
  • Many small shops and cafés close on Sundays and Mondays outside July.
  • If you arrive by train you arrive in Lindesberg, not Nora: allow for the bus link.
