Give Tallahassee one full day plus a night: the old and new capitols, Mission San Luis and the museums are a half-day each, and the city is a stop on I-10, not a destination in itself.
Tallahassee is Florida's capital and a two-university town, set in the red-clay hills of Middle Florida about 40 km inland from the Gulf. The state government and Florida State and Florida A&M universities give it museums, a historic capitol and a restaurant scene larger than its size suggests. Sights sit in separate clusters, so a car or a rideshare is the practical way to move between them.

Getting around
Downtown, Midtown and Lake Ella are walkable; almost everything else needs a car or rideshare. STAR Metro buses run roughly 6:00–19:00 on weekdays and 7:00–19:00 at weekends, with limited service after 19:00 and on Sundays, and most trips need a transfer at the C.K. Steele Bus Plaza downtown. Taxis are few outside the airport, so book by phone or app.
