Bintan Resorts (Lagoi) is a gated resort strip on Bintan's north coast, built and priced to Singaporean standards: about ten beach resorts, four golf courses, a lagoon water park and a shopping plaza. Most guests arrive by ferry from Singapore and stay inside the gate. Prices run far above the rest of Indonesia, so treat it as a resort holiday, not a base for exploring the island.

Getting around

Most hotels run free shuttles to the ferry terminal and to Plaza Lagoi, but the resort shuttle buses have been suspended at times — check with your hotel. Global Bintan is the only official taxi service in Lagoi (short hops from Rp150,000; Tanjung Pinang from Rp500,000). Grab coverage is patchy. Car rental with a driver is available at the ferry terminal.

Watch out

Safety

Serious violent crime is rare inside the gate, but petty theft happens and the Tourism Police and Navy keep an office at Kota Sebung. Tap water is treated to WHO standards at the resort plant; bottled is still the safer habit.
  • Prices are Singapore-level and 10% tax plus 10% service is added at most restaurants.
  • The northeast monsoon (Nov–Mar) brings waves and poor visibility for diving.
  • Small jellyfish on the beaches in season.
  • Petty theft happens; keep bags with you on the beach.
  • Resort shuttle buses to Plaza Lagoi have been suspended at times — confirm before relying on them.
