Twillingate
Give Twillingate 2 nights in summer for boat tours, hiking and the late-July festival; icebergs drift past in late spring and early summer, but timing varies and sightings are never guaranteed.
Twillingate is a town of about 2,200 people on two islands off northeastern Newfoundland, reached by a causeway and Route 340. It calls itself the iceberg capital, and late spring is when the ice drifts past. Summer brings whale and seabird tours, a winery, hiking trails and a folk festival in late July. There is one hotel and a scatter of B&Bs and rental homes, so book ahead in peak weeks. A car is effectively required.
