Mount BaldyBaldy Resort

Go for 1–2 nights only if you ski or want a quiet cabin base; otherwise day-trip from Oliver (35 min) or Osoyoos (45 min) and skip the stay.

Mount Baldy is a small ski hill and ski-in/ski-out cottage village above the Okanagan Valley in southern British Columbia, about 35 minutes from Oliver and 45 minutes from Osoyoos. It has 35 downhill trails, no night skiing, and Nordic trails open December through March. There is no town here: no supermarket, no hospital, no bus. You come for snow, a cabin and quiet, and you bring what you need. In summer the lifts stop and the appeal drops sharply.

  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
  • Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
  • Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Getting around

You need a car. Access is via McKinney Road from Oliver, or from BC Highway 3 north of Bridesville and BC Highway 33 west of Rock Creek. Winter tires or chains are required on the mountain road in snow; check conditions before you climb. On the hill everything is walkable or skiable, and there is no local bus.

Too far for a day trip; go only as part of a longer Okanagan drive.

On-hill cottages and lodges

Ski-in/ski-out cabins and lodge suites; the only way to sleep at the resort. Book early for weekends and holidays.

Oliver

35 min down the mountain; motels, restaurants and a supermarket. Best if you want services and a cheaper bed.

Osoyoos

45 min away; more choice of hotels and food, and the warmest lake in the region in summer.

Watch out

Safety

Low crime, high exposure: the real risks are the winter drive up, unmarked tree wells and deep snow off-piste. Ski with a partner, stay in bounds unless equipped, and tell someone your plan.
  • No fuel, no supermarket and no medical centre on the hill: fill up and shop in Oliver or Osoyoos.
  • Cell coverage is patchy; some cabins have Wi-Fi, some have no phone at all.
  • The access road is steep and can be icy or unplowed after storms: check road and snow conditions before driving up.
  • No night skiing: the day ends when the lifts stop.
  • Lift operations are weather-dependent and can close mid-season: check the resort's snow report before you commit.

  2. Four walking clusters with rescue anchors: base lodge, rental shop, cottage lanes, Nordic trailhead.
  3. Place pages with verified cutoffs (lift hours, rental desk, Nordic trails) and eat pages with last orders in Oliver and Osoyoos.
  4. Snow and hostile-arrival fixtures so gates A–D can go green.
