Getting around

The historic centre is walkable: Porta Nuova station to Piazza Bra is about 15 minutes on foot, or buses 11, 12 and 13 on weekdays. Buy bus tickets from machines, the app or shops with a blue T sign; paying the driver costs extra (about €0.80 surcharge, cash only). A funicular climbs to Castel San Pietro (about €2 one way).

Safety

Verona is a safe, walkable city; the real risks are pickpockets around the Arena and Piazza delle Erbe, summer heat, and bars with no posted prices — ask the total before you sit.
  • The Arena closes early on performance evenings; check the day's hours before you go.
  • Casa di Giulietta draws long queues for a small courtyard and a 1936 balcony; the courtyard is the free part.
  • Castel San Pietro has been closed for restoration; the hill viewpoint may still be reachable — check locally.
  • Summer opera nights fill the city: book accommodation and Arena tickets months ahead.
  • Old-town driving is restricted by ZTL camera zones; park outside and walk in.
