Portadown is a linen-era town and rail junction on the Belfast–Dublin line, 1 hour from Belfast and 90 minutes from Dublin. It has a handful of sights — Ardress House, Dan Winter's Cottage, the Newry Canal towpath — but no tourist core, and the town's sectarian history is still visible in its geography. Use it as a stop, not a stay.

Getting around

The town centre is walkable, but sights are spread out and buses are infrequent. Ardress House and Dan Winter's Cottage need a car or taxi. Ulsterbus 46/47 shuttles between Portadown, Craigavon and Lurgan every 15 min. National Cycleway 9 runs mostly on-road from Belfast through Portadown to Scarva and Newry.
