Llançà is a fishing port of about 5,000 people on the Costa Brava, between the Cap de Creus peninsula and the French border. It has its own train station on the Girona–Portbou line, a long beach promenade and a string of small coves reached on the Camí de Ronda. It suits travellers who want a low-key base with rail access, not nightlife or big sights.

Getting around

The centre, port and main beach are walkable in 10–20 minutes. The Camí de Ronda links the coves north and south of town and overlaps the GR-92 long-distance path. Renfe regional trains (R11 and the Girona Rodalies RG1) stop at Llançà station on the line to Figueres, Portbou and the French border. Buses are limited; a car helps for Cap de Creus and inland villages.

Watch out

Safety

Llançà is a small, low-crime resort and feels safe day and night. The real risks are the sea (currents, rocky entries, no lifeguards at the coves), the tramuntana wind, and heat on exposed coastal walks: carry water and check flags before swimming.
  • Many hotels, campsites and restaurants close or cut hours from November to March: check before booking a winter trip.
  • Coves north of town have no lifeguards or services; some are reached only on foot over rough, rocky ground.
  • Swimming areas near the port and rocky coves can have strong currents and sudden drop-offs: follow local flags and signs.
  • The tramuntana wind blows hard and often; it makes the sea rough and can close small beaches.
  • Summer parking near the beaches fills early; the train avoids the problem.
  • Some beaches allow dogs, others do not: check local signs before taking a dog onto the sand.
