Mazamitla
Go for 1–2 nights from Guadalajara: pine-forest cabins, a 50 m waterfall and cool air, but rough cobblestones and weekend traffic.
Mazamitla is a small Pueblo Mágico in the Sierra del Tigre, about 140 km south of Guadalajara and roughly 3 hours by second-class bus. Most visitors come for a weekend: a cabin in the pines, the Cascada el Salto hike, ATV or horse trails, and cold evenings. The town itself is compact and walkable, but the streets are rough cobblestone and the one traffic light jams on weekends. One night covers the town; two nights let you add the forest, the dam at Valle de Juárez and a slower pace.

Getting around
The centre is small and walkable, but the cobblestone streets are rough and hilly. Ride-hailing apps do not work here; local taxis wait at the zócalo and outside the bus station and are scarce when weekenders arrive. For the waterfall, the dam and the forest trails you need a taxi, a tour, a rental car or an ATV. Cell signal drops outside town, so save an offline map before you leave.
