Curridabat is a prosperous eastern suburb of San José on the road and rail line to Cartago, built around two malls, offices and the University of Costa Rica spillover from San Pedro. It has almost no sightseeing of its own: a parish church, a small park, the National Archives and a farmers' market. Most travellers pass through on the train to Cartago or sleep here for a hotel near the highway. Treat it as a bed, not a destination.

Getting around
The San José–Cartago train stops at CFIA/Curridabat (northwest) and UACA/Cipreses (northeast), with a third stop in Lourdes within walking distance. Buses run from San José. The suburb is spread out and not car-friendly for visitors: Uber is cheap and the usual choice, and driving is calmer than in the capital. Walking works only within one cluster.

- Some residential areas are gated communities that do not welcome outsiders; stay on main streets.
- Rush hour on CR-02 toward San José and Cartago can double a short drive.
