Hook of Holland is a small coastal town inside the Rotterdam municipality, where the Nieuwe Waterweg meets the North Sea. It matters to travellers for two reasons: the Stena Line ferry to Harwich, and an 18 km sand beach with dunes that the Rotterdam metro now reaches directly. The town itself is small and walkable; the main sights sit 2–4 km out, so a bike helps. Most people sleep in Rotterdam and come out for the day.

Getting around
The town is flat and small enough to walk. Rotterdam Metro line B ends at Hoek van Holland Haven (ferry terminal) and Hoek van Holland Strand (beach). Buses connect to The Hague. Bikes are the fastest way to the barrier and the dunes; check in and out on the metro with a contactless bank card or an OV-chipkaart.

Safety
- Coastal wind is strong year-round: a bike ride that is easy one way can be hard work back.
- The beach is unpatrolled outside the summer season; swim only where others do and watch for currents.
- Several visitor centres and small museums open only a few days a week or in season: check before you travel out.
